Questions and answers

What is the European Youth Card?

  • The European Youth Card is a personal discount card, available to all young people up to the age of 30 (last day before 31st birthday). You don’t have to be a student, you don’t have to be European.
  • The card is issued in 38 countries and offers thousands of discounts and benefits on accommodation, travel, food, shopping, culture and much more. The European Youth Card enables you to explore Europe on a low budget and experience more on your travels.
  • Watch out for the EYCA logo everywhere you go, it marks all the places and events where you can get a discount with the card.
  • The discounts offered, as well as the age limit (26 or 30 years) changes with the country, so check out the discount database on www.eyca.org before you travel.
  • It is not a prepaid card or a debit card, so you don't need to load it with money. You simply show the card in the store/hostel/etc. and you'll get the discount.
  • You only buy one card for all of Europe, the EYCA logo is valid everywhere you go, no need to purchase a card in every country.

How much does the card cost?

  • The European Youth Card costs 14 Euro.
  • We will only charge your card with this amount.

Why should I choose the European Youth Card?

  • It's handy, it's trendy and it's easy to use - just show it and save.
  • You can use it to access benefits in 38 countries in Europe. Look for the European Youth Card logo which gives you access to all the services.
  • You’ll be able to travel through Europe on a shoe-string budget: get discounts on trains and busses, hotels and hostels, theatres, cinemas, museums, language courses, cultural events, clothes and lots more!

Where do I get discounts and benefits with the European Youth Card?

  • The best way to look up the discounts available in a given city or country is to check the online discount database. You can search discounts by country, region or category.
  • You can also contact the local European Youth Card organisation and ask them directly. Please find a full list of all the organisations and their websites on www.eyca.org.
  • In most countries, the age limit for cardholders (and for using the discounts) has been raised from 26 to 30. In countries where the cardholder age limit is 26, cardholders older than 26 will not be granted a discount. Please check the age limits in different countries before you travel here.
  • The discounts and services offered by the European Youth Card are subject to change. The European Youth Card organisations and the European Youth Card Association cannot accept responsibility for any future changes to the discounts offered.

Where is my card issued?

  • Your European Youth Card will be issued by the headquarters of the European Youth Card Association (EYCA) based in Brussels, Belgium.
  • The card is also issued in more than 38 European countries by national card organisations, which are members of EYCA. For a full list of the EYCA countries and card organisations, please visit www.eyca.org.
  • The card is known under different national names across Europe, such as Carte Jeunes, Jugendkarte, Carnet Joven or CJP card.

Why am I being redirected to another website?

  • You can only purchase the card through this Kiosk, if you’re in a country where there is no national card organisation.
  • If you are in a country where the European Youth is issued locally, you should contact your national or regional European Youth Card organisation in order to obtain it.

How long is the card valid for?

  • The card is valid for one year from the day of issue. You can purchase it again each year until you reach the age of 31.
  • You can use the card until your 31st birthday. When you purchase the card after you have turned 30, it will be issued with a shorter validity, until your 31st birthday.

Which credit/debit bank cards are accepted at your shop? Is it safe?

  • Currently the accepted cards are: VISA, MasterCard and American Express. You can also use your Pay Pal account, if you have one.
  • All payments are processed through PayPal, so your bankcard details will be automatically registered there; you just need to enter a password for your temporary account.
  • PayPal, our payment service provider will send you an e-mail with the transaction data. Please keep it.
  • If your bankcard is refused, the procedure will be stopped and an error message will appear at the top of the credit card page, so you won’t be charged without knowing it.
  • We find the security of your data most important. The payments are carried out in a safe connection secured with the PayPal technology and your personal data are treated as highly confidential and will only be used for the purpose of issuing your card.
  • If you would like to purchase two cards (i.e. one for your friend), please order them and pay for them individually - during the order you can only enter one set of details (your name, birthdate), which will then appear on the card.

My bank card was declined!

  • If you have received a message that PayPal was unable to authorize or charge your credit card, please check with your bank. Bankcards may be declined for a variety of reasons, such as a technical error during processing, and we do not have access to further information.
  • Please try to make the payment again with another type of bankcard.
  • Once the payment goes through, you will receive a confirmation message immediately.
  • If the problem persists, contact us with the details of the error message at kiosk@eyca.org.
